We all know that rice is fundamental in Asian kitchen. Unlike Asian rice, Turkish rice is oily and much more salty. This makes it a great side dish which you can see at any restaurant in Turkey. So, let’s see how this popular dish from Turkish cuisine is made!
How to Prepare Turkish White Rice?
Firstly you should let the rice wait in warm water to release its excess starch. Getting rid of the rice starch is important for not having a sticky rice. After 30 minutes, rinse and filter the rice.
Heat the olive oil above high heat until the oil start bubbling.

Add the rice and salt. Cook them for at least 5 minutes. Keep stirring so that rice will not get burned.

After stirring for 5 minutes, pour in the warm water. Cover the lid and let it cook until the water is soaked by the rice.

Once the water is soaked completely, put the pot aside. Place a paper towel between the lid and the pot and let the rice rest for at least 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, stir the rice well and serve it warm.
Ingredients
- 2 cups rice
- 3 cups warm water
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1,5 teaspoons salt
Instructions
- In a bowl, wash the rice and let it wait in cold water for 30 minutes. After, rinse and filter the rice.
- Heat the olive oil above high heat. Add rice and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Pour in the warm water and close the lid of pot. Let the rice cook until the water disappears.
- Once the water is soaked completely, remove the pot and place a paper towel between the pot and the lid.
- Let it rest for 10 minutes.
- Serve it with meat, chicken or roasted vegetables.
Notes
- Be sure that you control the rice during the cooking process so rice will not burn.
