Berry Sauce is quick and easy to make, yet super delicious sauce that pairs well with any desserts, like cheesecakes, cupcakes, or even ice cream. Berry sauce also can be used to give blood effect to make spooky recipes during the halloween season.

Ingredients

Mixed Berries: A mix of blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, and redcurrant, either frozen or fresh. These berries pairs well with most of the desserts, especially the chocolate desserts.

Granulated Sugar: Sweetens the berries, balancing their natural tartness. You can adjust the amount depending on the ripeness or sweetness of your berries.

Wheat Starch: Used to thicken the sauce, giving it a smooth and pourable consistency. It helps the sauce cling to desserts.

How to Make Berry Sauce?

Transfer Mixed Berries into a Saucepan: Add the fresh or frozen berries to a saucepan. If using frozen, there is no need to thaw beforehand.

Pour in the Water and Bring it to a Boil: Add enough water to help break down the berries. Boil the mixture over high heat until the berries start to soften and release their juices.

Add Sugar and Starch, Simmer for 5 Minutes: Once the mixture boils, add the sugar to sweeten it and the starch to thicken it. Stir well and let it simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.

Blend the Mixture for a Smooth Sauce: After simmering, use a blender or an immersion blender to puree the sauce for a smooth texture. This step will give the sauce a velvety consistency.

Cool the Sauce: Remove the pan from the heat and let the sauce cool down. As it cools, the sauce will thicken a bit more and be ready to use.

Key Notes

Use Fresh or Frozen Berries: Either works well for this recipe. If using frozen berries, there is no need to thaw them beforehand; they will break down during the cooking process.

Adjust Sweetness: The sugar amount can be adjusted based on the sweetness of your berries or your personal taste. Taste the sauce after simmering and add more sugar if needed.

Wheat Starch as a Thickener: Wheat starch creates a smooth, glossy finish to the sauce. Make sure to mix it well before adding it to the berries to avoid clumps. Cornstarch can also be used as a substitute if wheat starch is unavailable.

Blending for a Smooth Finish: Blending the sauce creates a smooth, velvety texture. For a chunkier sauce, you can skip this step or blend for a shorter time.

Store in the Fridge: Once the sauce has cooled down, store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Serving

Perfect for Drizzling: This smooth berry sauce is ideal for drizzling over cakes, pancakes, waffles, or ice cream. The tartness pairs wonderfully with creamy or sweet dishes. Also, berry sauce is perfect to give blood effect on your halloween recipes.

Layer in Parfaits: For a beautiful layered dessert, use this sauce in parfaits with yogurt, granola, or whipped cream.

Serve with Breakfast: Use it as a topping for oatmeal, French toast, or crepes for a fruity twist to your morning meal.

Accompany Chocolate Desserts: The tart berry sauce complements the richness of chocolate-based desserts like brownies or mousse.

Serve Chilled or Warm: You can serve the sauce chilled as a refreshing topping or gently warm it before serving if you prefer it hot over desserts.
